27th September - Closing of the Green - Three rinks of triples played on the last game of our season, slightly spoiled by the constrant rain, but we had an enjoyable day, nonetheless. The Treasurer beat the Secretrary by a handful of shots, which put a smile on Alan Geddes' face - or was it the whiskey?

President Christine McKay and Secretary May Beveridge made the trophy presentations after the game.

That's another season over, but we have a big season ahead next year, as we are holding the Balfour Trophy at the club, as well as numerous County matches. We also have a contingent of Dollar bowlers playing indoor this season, so we'll report on their progress over the winter months.

It's our intention to hold some social evenings during the winter, which will be announced on the website once dates have been agreed.

24th September - EGM - The Extraoridary General Meeting was held at 7pm in the clubhouse to discuss the merits of joining the CASC system. Following a discussion amongst the members it was decided that, at this time, there was no benefit in joining the system and that we would continue as we are.

22nd September - Two Bowls Singles Final - The Cameron Trophy final was played between Alan Geddes and Ian Inglis, with Alan coming out on top. Congratulation to Alan and commiserations to Ian, who has not had the best three days of his bowling career!

21st September - Club Championship Trophy - The final of the club championship was a re-run of yesterday's Presidents Trophy final, with Davie Taylor chalking up another victory over Ian Inglis. This was Ian's 20th appearance in the final and only the first time that he has failed to lift the title. So congratulations to Davie Taylor, Dollar Bowling Club's new Champion!

20th September - Presidents Trophy - The final of the Presidents Single Trophy was played between Davie Taylor and Ian Inglis (The old one!). Both players played some superb bowls, but Davie was just too strong for Ian on the day. I'm sure you all join with me in offering our congratulations to Davie.

Match Cancellation - on 20th September - Friendly match with Sauchie Bowling club - The match between Sauchie and Dollar has been cancelled by Sauchie, as they couldn't raise a team. Thanks to the young man who drove to the club to let us know.

16th September - Rink Night - Rain stopped play! Due to the poor weather conditions, Greenkeeper, David Beveridge, announced that the green could not be played on, so the rink night had to be cancelled. This means that Davie Taylor can now not be beaten in the points Championship, so congratulations to Davie! (and tough luck Gordon!)

Upcoming Event - 24th September - Extraordinary General Meeting at 7pm - Due to changes in the licensing laws, it is necessary to make changes to the Club's Constitution. This cannot be achieved at the Half-yearly General Meeting, so an Extraodinary General Meeting has been called at 7pm on Wednesday, 24th September, 2008. The comittee would appreciate a good attendance.

Grouse Invitational Pairs Winners

14th September - Grouse Invitational Pairs- The sun shone brightly for us all day, as the Dollar bowlers, together with their invited guests, battled to win the Grouse Invitational pairs. A most enjoyable day was had by all, not just because we enjoyed the bowls and the banter, but also Adam's barbeque, which, as always, proved to be very popular. The burgers were supplied by MacDonald's restaurant in Dunfermline, so we would also extend our thanks to the burger chain, as well as to Adam Denney for feeding us all and keeping us going.

Kennie Young  from DBC and Christine Evans from Dunmore Bowling Club met John Kerr of DBC and his partner Alex Whyte of Alva Bowling Club in the final, which was a tighly faught contest that needed an extra end to find the winners, with Kennie and Christine coming out on top.

The beaten semi-finalists were Roy Lennon of DBC and Margaret Lennon of Alva South Bowling club and Dennis Fitzgerald and Stephen Gardiner, both of DBC.

Special thanks to Katie Moran of sponsors, Maxxium, who sponsored the event, particularly as she attended the event from ten o'clock in the morning to 6 o'clock in the evening, helping the day run smoothly.

11th September - Club Competitions - County Pairs - Ian and Ian Inglis beat Kennie and Kai Young in the final of the County Pairs. It was a close game until the 13th end, which saw the score 11-11, but  the Inglis boys stepped up a gear  in the last four ends, to power ahead and win by 17 -11.

9th September - Rink Night - 12 members braved this September night and we played three pairs matches. Top pair were Gordon Duncan and Lou "Diamond" Phillips who lifted the 3 points for the evening, putting Gordon on 23 points for the season. Davie Taylor and his sidekick, Adam Denney, also chalked up a victory, so Davie retains his lead at the top of the table, although now only by four points. With only two games left, Gordon has to lift the three points at least once and win his other game, whilst hoping Davie loses both his, in order to retain his title. The other match was won by Kennie and Kai Young.

6th September - Club Competitions - This weekend saw several of this years Club Championships decided. Starting on Friday, Roy Lennon won his first Seniors Singles championship with a win over Jim Brown.

Saturday saw a round robin competition to decide this years Triples champs. Despite  a disappointing turnout of only 4 teams, everyone involved, enjoyed a day of keen competition interspersed with a mouth watering barbecue lunch, laid on by our resident Godon Ramsay, Adam Denney. Adam will also be laying on a barbeque for Sunday's Grouse Invitational.

With the weather holding out the team of Ian Inglis snr. Davey Taylor & Ian Inglis jnr just prevailed despite a dour effort from Kennie Young, Dennis Fitzgerald and Peter Duncan to finish runners up.

Sunday saw a couple of the pairs competitions being settled with Ian Inglis jnr. and Kevin Jack conquering the more experienced (thats polite for aulder), pair of Ian Inglis snr. and Davie Taylor in the 2 Bowl Pairswhile later on, the 2 Ians combined to edge out Kevin and his partner Gordon Duncan in the National Pairs. So congratulations to all the winners and tough luck to the runners-up, better luck next year!

2nd September - Rink Night- Twelve members turned out for the rink night this evening and although it was somewhat drizzly and driech, everyone had a good night. The sweep was won by Davie Taylor and Dennis Fitzgerald, who were up by 11 shots over ten ends. The win puts Davie 5 points clear of Gordon Duncan in the Points Championship, making him odds-on favourite to win the title, as there are only three weeks to go.

30th August - Alloa East End v Dollar Bowling club- Dollar took four rinks to Alloa East End, but it wasn't our finest hour, with all four rinks failing to chalk up a victory. It was, however, a most enjoyable game, played in a friendly atmosphere.

Upcoming Event 30th August - Alloa East End v Dollar Bowling Club- Roy is looking for one more name for Saturday's friendly against Alloa East End. Phone Roy, or add your name to the list on the noticeboard today, if you can play.

27th August - National Pairs Semi-Final- Gordon Duncan and Kevin Jack beat Kai and Kennie Young last night to face the the two Ians in the National Pairs Finals. It was a close run game, as far as ends won goes, with the Young boys winning 9 of the 16 ends played, but the experienced pair of Gordon and Kevin kept their losing ends to ones or twos, while scoring multiples on their own winning ends to win the game by a clear eleven shots.

27th August - Points Competition - Davie Taylor is currently two points ahead of the current points champion, Gordon Duncan and with only a couple more rink nights to play and the weather not being too kind to us, it looks like the competition will be decided between Davie and Gordon this year. (Apologies to Donald Ferguson, for the misprint of his name in the table).

Points Competition Standings as at 27th August

Upcoming Event - 6th September - Dollar Bowling Club Triples Championship - The club hasn't held a triples competition for some time, but it's back! It has been decided to run the whole competition in a day and at present, there are four teams entered. There is still time to put a team forward, simply enter your side on the entry sheet on the notice board before the 1st September, as the draw will be made on the 2nd.

26th August - Rink Night - A Poor turn-out, most likely due to the weather, saw only 11 members make the effort to venture out this evening, so there were insufficient numbers to hold an official rink night. The members present, did however, have a bounce game and held a sweep, which was won by Davie Taylor and his boy wonder sidekick, Donald Ferguson.

22nd August - Alloa Co-Op Bowling Club v Dollar Bowling Club - Alloa Co-op have cancelled our annual fixture that was due to be played on Sunday. This is the fifth time in a row that it has been cancelled, which surely puts the fixture in jeopardy for next season.

22nd August - Freestyle Flat Green Bowling (Under Crown Green Rules) - The Rain God was kind to us and the inaugural Freestyle Flat Green Bowling Competition went ahead with 12 entries. Odds-on pre-competition favourite, Gordon Duncan, got off to a flying start, with a 7-0 victory, but he was dumped out of the competition by an on-form Ian Inglis by the same score-line, making it a happy day for the bookies!

After the Group stages, Ian Inglis, David Gordon and Kennie Young had made the semi-finals, but it took a tense play-off between Alan Geddes and Peter Duncan to decide the fourth Semi final spot, which Peter won with a fine display of full length bowling skill. Peter's brother Gordon was delighted that he had made the final stages to keep the honour of the Duncan's alive, after Gordon's sad demise.

The semi finals were drawn and Ian Inglis took on Kennie Young and Peter Duncan drew David Gordon. Ian was determined to win, as he has never beaten Kennie at Freestyle Bowls in his life, but the Pink Bomber strolled through to the final, keeping his 100% record against Inglis Senior intact. In the other Semi-final, David showed some impressive skill, but Peter "Bet Lynch" Duncan grabbed the vacant final spot.

The final was a tight afair, going into the final end all square, but Kennie Young managed to draw two full length shots to win the day.

Thanks to Dennis Fitzgerald for running the competition, to Adam Denney for laying on the barbeque food and to MacDonalds for supplying the burgers. The competition was a great success and one that most certainly will be repeated next year.

19th August - Rink Night - Another drizzly night, but an excellent turnout saw four rinks of triples, with Dennis Fitzgerald, Kennie Young and John Kerr proving to be the Pot Hunters on the night!

16th August - Dollar Bowling Club v Cambus Bowling Club - As is always the case, when playing Cambus, an enjoyable day was had by all. The match ended 2-2, with both side's rinks winning two, but Cambus won the match by four points.

12th August - Rink Night - The rink night was cancelled due to the weather.

9th August Freestyle Flat Green Bowling (Under Crown Green Rules) -Unfortunately, the competition was rained off, but has been re-arranged for Friday 22nd, with a start time of 6.30PM. There has been a new entry sheet posted on the notice board, so make sure you enter and support the club in it's efforts to bring new interesting events to the club for the benefit of members.

Coming on the 9th August Freestyle Flat Green Bowling (Under Crown Green Bowls) - Dennis Fitzgerald is running a crown bowls competition on Saturday, the 9th August, with real crown jacks and mats. All members and guests are welcome, simply add your name to the list on the clubhouse notice board. Dennis will be available from 11.30 for anyone that wants to have a practice before the competition starts at 12.00. Dennis brought the jacks and mats down for a wee practice on Thursday night and everyone enjoyed the experience. If you have a few hours free on Saturday, make the effort and turn up to the Club for 11.30am. The competition should be done and dusted by 3.30 to 4.00pm. If it's a good day, Adam will be running a Barbeque as well!

5th August 2008 Rink Night. There was a good turnout on this dreech and drizzly Tuesday evening and the overall winners of the five rinks of pairs were John Kerr and Eileen Isdale, who finished 11 shots up.

5th August 2008 Kinross Fixture - This season's Friendly with Kinross Bowling Club has been cancelled, as Kinross are unable to find a suitable available Saturday or Sunday before the end of the season.

Waterlogged Green

29th July 2008 Rink Night cancelled - Due to a sudden down-pour, which saw the green completely flooded in the space of ten minutes, Tuesday's rink night was cancelled. (Pic Adam Denney)

29th July 2008 Golden Oldies Cancelled - The Golden Oldies match against Alva Bowling Club has been cancelled, after a suitable date could not be agreed, due to holiday commitments. Alva will now progress through to the next round.

28th July 2008 Clackmannan County Bowling League -This evening saw a disappointing end to the League Challenge. Although unable to reach the latter stages, both Dollar and Alloa East End Bowling Clubs were playing for the points that would see them jump a place in the final table, but it was East End that came out on top by six points to nil. Ah well, there's always next year!

26th July 2008 Dollar Target Points Competion - Roy Lennon organised and run the annual points competion and although there was a disappointing turnout of only 8 members, the sun was shining and the the banter was flowing and everyone had an enjoyable afternoon. Both the overall points competition and highest single score prize were won by Kennie Young. Kennie put half his prize money up for a corner-to-corner nearest the Jack four ball competition, which was won by Dennis Fitzgerald, who ended up only three inches from the jack! Thanks to Roy for the hard work he put into running the day.

25th July, 2008 Clackmannan County Bowling League - Dollar Bowling Club took on Old Alloa, at Old Alloa, and only came away with two points out of a possible six. Davie Taylor's team of Peter Duncan, Kennie Young and Gordon Duncan won by an impressive margin, but the teams skipped by Ian Inglis and Alan Geddes failed to follow though on what were promising starts to the game by both Dollar fours. The result puts Dollar out of contention, making the result on Monday night at Alloa East End Bowling Club redundant.

25th July, 2008 Clackmannan County Top 6 - The Dollar Bowling Club Seniors, Roy Lennon, Donald Ferguson, Dennis Fitzgerald, Jim Brown, Andrew Black and Pat Bisset, were defeated in the final of the County top 6 competition by 3-0 by Patons Bowling Club Seniors at Alva South this afternoon. We may be disappointed for the Dollar team, but I'm sure everyone witll join me in congratulating them in reaching the final and putting on a valiant show. It was good to see so many Dollar members turn out to support our senior team, particularly as it was on a weekday afternoon.

The Winners of The Charlie Young Memorial Pairs, Sponsored by Bells and Kenkai.com

20th July 2008 The Charlie Young Memorial Pairs was played throughout the day and was won by Roy Lennon of Dollar Bowling Club and Roy's sister in law, Margaret, who plays for Alva South. 19th July, 2008 County Junior Singles Final - Ian Inglis, (The younger, good looking one!), won the Clackmannan County Junior Singles Title at Alva South Bowling Club, beating young Jamie from Alloa East End, quite comfortably. I'm sure everyone at  the club will join me in congratulating Ian for winning the County title this year, as it's his last chance to win it, as he becomes a man next year! (In bowling terms anyway!)

18th July, 2008 Clackmannan County Top 6 -
Dollar's Seniors won their Semi-Final at Alloa Co-op this afternoon and go on to represent the club in the Final, on Friday 26th July at Alva South Bowling Club.

18th July, 2008 Clackmannan County Bowling League - Dollar beat Alva Bowling Club by two games to one to earn another 4 points in the League. Teams Skipped by Davy Taylor and Alan Geddes won the points for Dollar, with Ian Inglis' rink beaten narrowly. Next week's League match sees Dollar Bowling club taking on Old Alloa in Alloa.

Kai Young and Peter Duncan with sponsor, Katie Moran

29th June, 2008 Famous Grouse Handicapped Pairs - The pairs competition was played at Dollar Bowling Club and after a long, enjoyable day, Kai Young and Peter Duncan beat Gordon Duncan and Alan Armstrong in the final. Thanks to Roy for running the tournament on the day and to Katie from Maxxium for sponsoring the day.
