Participation Race Night - posted on Saturday 13th of June, 2009

There was a dissapointing turnout of 24 members and guests, for the participation race night. However, the evening was a riot of laughter (and a lot of shouting!) and we raised £235 for club funds. Thanks go to Social Conveynor, Kai Young for staging the event. Thanks also to Kai's helpers on the night, Kennie Young, Dolly Young, Gordon Duncan, Lew Diamond Phillips, Adam Denney and Margaret Daniels -  and a mention to Matt McKay for explaining how to set up and run the race night. Thanks also to all members that bought horses and sponsored the races.

Friendly Match v Orwell - posted on Sunday 7th of June, 2009

Dollar made the trip to Orwell Bowling Club for a mixed-rink friendly and despite a good competitive, friendly game being played, Dollar were defeated by a side that knows their own green very well. The hospitality was, (as always at Orwell), first class and we look forward to playing next season at Dollar. We wish president Davie and his members every success with their matches this season.

Jay Kay Caberet and Karaoke - posted on Saturday 6th of June, 2009

Cabaret and Karaoke night was held at the club on Saturday night and despite a turnout of only 28, a fabulous night was had by one and all. We'd like to thank Jay Kay for putting on such an entertaining show, as well as all the singers that entertained us during the eveing. A special mention goes to the three members who performed to to the Full Monty song - funny, but not a pretty sight!

National Competitions - posted on Friday 5th of June, 2009

Congratulations to the Dollar Pairs and Dollar Fours who qualified for the National competition semi finals this evening. Commiserations to the Triples. Ian S Inglis and David Taylor beat Alva at Clackmannan, Kennie Young, Dennis Fitzgerald and Peter Duncan were beaten 18-14 by Alloa at Patons and Gordon Duncan, Kevin Jack, Adam Denney and Kai Young beat Alloa Co-op at Tulliallan.

There were a few old ladies in the crowd that felt that the slogans on the back of the three of the Fours' tops were in bad taste and put in unofficial complaints to the SBA representative. To those ladies and any other fellow bowlers that read anything into their slogans, all three members give their assuranceas that there was no intention to cause any offence.

To most people, they are amusing slogans that can only offend anyone that reads something into the slogans that isn't actually there. I won't go as far as to say people with dirty minds, as that would probably offend the same people as well. It seems a shame that narrow minded people didn't concentrate more on the excellent bowls the lads played, rather than what they were wearing, but it seems that there are people that would rather look for something to moan about than to look for the positives in any situation. You only have one shot at life - Smile - be happy!

To those concerned, (and by all accounts, this seems to be a big talking point for a reason, that most people I spoke to can't understand), please rest assured, the tops will not be worn on the green in any National or County competitions again.

We wish the pairs and the fours every success in the Semi Finals.
